A Greenfield mega-build onshore downstream project was to be undertaken utilising a Modular build philosophy. The project is set to increase production by 750,000 bpd and features 172 PARs and PAUs being constructed in 7 different countries.
Scopus dimensional control was utilised to allow a first time fit of all modules using the Scopus ‘Single weld philosophy’.
Scopus undertook Dimensional Control surveys and build control for the project across multiple yards, located in Abu Dhabi, Oman, Italy, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and China where the modules were being fabricated. The critical interface points of each module were then adjusted following the survey as required to be correct as per design prior to leaving fabrication yard, pipework and interface points were then fixed in place for transit to ensure “first time fit” on site.
The first modules landed on site in 2015 and construction is ongoing. In this case the project has been utilising the Scopus ‘Single weld philosophy’, where each module is set out on site by a Scopus survey team to enable it to seamlessly fit to the previously positioned module, allowing each pipe to require only a single weld to connect the modules. This process results in significant time savings in the project construction, as well as a significantly safer build by reducing the overall amount of welding, site activity and remedial work.
