Major modifications were planned to install new hydraulic units feeding new actuators to improve efficiency and minimise downtime, with design work scheduled for Scopus in Aberdeen.
The deployment of design teams to Nottinghamshire would have been expensive, and may have delayed the schedule.
A survey team from our Aberdeen office used Scopus laser-scanning technology to produce over 120 individual scans covering all areas of the turbine house. These were then registered together and delivered as a point-cloud database of the scanned areas, accurate to 4mm. All new modifications were designed using this database, with automatic clash-checking throughout. Avoiding the need for designers to mobilise to the power station, all design work was completed by Scopus Engineering in Aberdeen, saving considerable time and cost.
